Acquire the property
Secure a suitable multi-unit location in Detroit for safe, dignified transitional housing.
Where She Became Foundation is raising funds to acquire and prepare a multi-unit transitional housing location for women and young women moving toward stability and independence.
Every gift matters. Every book purchase helps move the mission forward.
We are in the launch and fundraising phase. We do not currently own or operate a transitional housing location and are not accepting housing applications or placements at this time. While housing development advances, we connect people with available community resources when possible.
Our mission
Where She Became Foundation is a Detroit nonprofit working toward safe, trauma-informed transitional housing for women experiencing housing instability, including young women ages 18–24 navigating the transition from foster care.
Our vision is bigger than a bed. It is a dignified place to pause, a supportive space to rebuild, and a practical path toward lasting independence.
What support makes possible
Gifts of every size help move the housing campaign from vision to readiness.
Secure a suitable multi-unit location in Detroit for safe, dignified transitional housing.
Support rehabilitation, safety improvements, furnishings, and the essentials residents will need.
Establish the partnerships, resources, and trauma-informed support needed for a responsible launch.

A book with a purpose
She Is Becoming is a confidence-building guide with 30 life-changing affirmations for young women.
Written by founder Shanea Ballard, the book encourages young women to strengthen their voice, recognize their worth, and imagine what is possible. Author proceeds support Where She Became Foundation and its work.
Partnerships matter
We welcome conversations with housing organizations, foster-care agencies, survivor services, workforce programs, mental-health providers, funders, and community partners.
